Starting a business is way too complicated to begin with, and when you ask someone to layout a “Business Plan” you highlight that fact.

The 1st business plan I worked on was my own about 30 years ago. I was presented with a 30-page questionnaire which I really enjoyed working on because I assumed that the more I put into my plan the closer I would be to success.

The result was a Masterpiece of epic proportions. I had budgets, projections, analyses on my competitors, demographics, statistics, etc… It was a foolproof plan, on paper. When I looked back years later I had carried out most of the plan but the results weren’t what I expected. If they were I would have been worth about $100,000,000!

I helped many clients layout sophisticated business and marketing plans in order to get loans and start and successful build businesses and I’m all for having a plan.

What I’m not for is wasting a lot of time, money and energy on a task that can be done for free and in less time it takes to get up and dressed in the morning.

The business plan I crafted over 8 years ago, in less than an hour is still in full force and effect today. The results have been truly astounding and my only regret is that I didn’t take advantage of this method of developing a business plan when it was presented to me over 35 years ago.

The plan was developed by the #1 authority on Success of all time, Napoleon Hill and the plan I’m referring to is called “A Definite Cheif Aim”.

“The starting point for all success is A Definite Cheif Aim” Andrew Carnegie

Hill laid it out in his 1st publication “Law of Success” and then an updated format in “Think and Grow Rich”. I use both.

This is what it is:

There are three distinct parts to it.

1: Where
2: How
3: What

WHERE are you going, HOW are you going to get there, and WHAT will be the result of #2. It must be simple, as explicit as possible and be Definite!

My Definite Chief Aim

“I, Bruce Lee, will be the highest-paid Oriental superstar in the United States.

In return, I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor.

Starting in 1970, I will achieve world fame and from then onward, till the end of 1980. I will have in my possession $10,000,000. I will live the way I please and achieve inner harmony and happiness.” Bruce Lee Jan. 1969

This is a very powerful example of a Definite Chief Aim. Bruce Lee achieved all of his goals and so can you! The question is finding your own DEFINITE CHIEF AIM and it’s not such an easy task.

Let’s dissect Mr. Lee’s statement into the three areas I have identified.

WHERE – “I, Bruce Lee, will be the highest-paid Oriental superstar in the United States.”

Bruce Lee defined in one very clear concise sentence WHERE he was going. Does it seem like there was any doubt as to what his destination was?

HOW – “In return, I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in
the capacity of an actor.”

Mr. Lee determined that in order to reach the destination he wanted to reach all he would have to do was “give the most exciting performance” and “render the best quality” in the “capacity of an actor”.

Take notice here that Mr. Lee decided that he was to be the “highest-paid Oriental superstar”.  He did not mention being an actor. If his destination was to simply be an actor he may have never been a superstar. Being an actor was HOW he was going to be a superstar!

WHAT – “Starting in 1970 I will achieve world fame and from then onward till the end of 1980 I will have in my possession $10,000,000. I will live the way I please and achieve inner harmony and happiness.”

“I, Stop Sign, will be a universally recognized symbol of safety.

I will stand high on street corners all over the world and be translated into every known language.

As a result of my presence, countless lives will be saved and I will produce hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for local municipalities. I will instill a sense of peace,

harmony and order everywhere I am displayed.

Now if a stop sign can do it I’m sure you can do it! Important note-although your Definite Chief Aim is an important guide in your success be very careful. As you trudge along your journey your own definition of Success may change. As you evolve your Definite Chief Aim may also evolve. Date your DCA and if you decide to make changes save each version. What happened with my own personal DCA was that it changed a few times. The last time I was reworking it seemed very familiar. After four years of “evolution”, my DCA was actually back to the first one I ever crafted! Was that a coincidence or did the Universe conspires to make it happen while nudging me here and there so that I would arrive at my original intention?

I’m looking at that DCA posted right on my wall in front of me and I get goosebumps knowing that Andrew Carnegie was right!

“Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.”  Alexander Graham Bell

In 2009 Joe discovered a new approach to business through “The Science of Getting Rich” written by Wallace Wattles and the inspiration behind the movie “The Secret”.

After successfully applying the SOGR principles as well as Napoleon Hill’s “Think And Grow Rich” to his own business, Joe discovered that there is a large market segment that is being overtaxed, unprotected and unfairly targeted by IRS. Every year over 3,000,000 entrepreneurs start businesses unaware of the dangers of operating as a sole proprietor with over 25,000,000 in the process of going bankrupt.  This discovery inspired Joe to develop programs, tools, and resources to help stem the tide of these avoidable small business failures.

Currently, Joe is building an online school for small business owners and which will help entrepreneurs create the books and records needed to survive any tax audit.
